
Stella Oni is a British-Nigerian crime fiction author, podcast host, and lecturer.
She writes two crime series: a British police procedural and a Lagos-set short mystery series featuring private detective Lara Ayodele.
She is the author of Deadly Sacrifice, a police procedural featuring Detective Toks Ade, the first Black female police detective in UK fiction. The novel was shortlisted for the SI Leeds Literary Prize and chosen as an Audible Crime and Thriller Pick. Her short fiction appears in anthologies, including the Anthony Award-nominated Midnight Hour (Crooked Lane).
Alongside her writing, Stella is a technical writer and guest lecturer at Cambridge PACE (Professional and Continuing Education). She teaches creative writing and leads workshops on crime writing and storytelling craft.
She judged the Jhalak Prize (2024) and the International Thriller Writers awards. Stella serves on the board of the Crime Writers’ Association and was a co-founding member of the Sisters in Crime UK/EU chapter. She is also active in International Thriller Writers, the Black Writers Guild, the Society of Authors, and Crime Writers of Color.
Stella speaks at private events, literary festivals, crime conventions, and cultural events about crime fiction, storytelling, and the role of technology in creative work.
She hosts Talking Tech with Creatives podcast, interviewing authors, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs about how technology influences creativity, culture, and business.
Stella is writing the second Detective Toks Ade Mystery, and developing The London House Mystery, a cosy series featuring housekeeper and amateur sleuth Elizabeth Ojo, starting with The Housekeeper’s Secret.
She blogs about books, culture, and food, especially Nigerian cuisine and global culinary traditions.
Stella offers workshops, technology training for writers, and speaking engagements on creativity, technology, and crime fiction.
